Help

New to the site? The ITOG Tutorial will help you get started.

Terms and Features

Tog

A tog is anything that can be rated. If you can look at it and say "That one's good!", it's a tog. ITOG currently allows members (known as toggers) to rate togs dealing with food, travel, media and entertainment. In the future, additional tog varieties may become available.

Togger

A togger is anyone who registers an account on ITOG. Registration is currently required in order to use the site. Toggers can be granted administrator or moderator status, giving them greater control over certain features of the site.

Friend

A togger who you have added as a friend can see more information about you, including which togs you have rated. They also show up on your Friends page so that you can see how similar (or different) you are in terms of your taste in togs.

Rating Togs

There are several ways to rate a tog. The easiest is the Quick Rate feature, which displays 10 random togs for you to rate. These can be filtered by type. You can also search for specific togs by name. Finally, you can rate a tog just about anywhere else you see it referenced on the site if you see a yellow star bar.

Predictions

This feature predicts togs that toggers will like based on the ratings they have given. You can filter your predictions by item type, rate togs you have already seen, add togs to your To Do list, or Hide Togs in which you know that you will never have interest. Remember, the more togs you rate, the more accurate your predictions will be!

Discussions

A forum-like section of the site that allows toggers to discuss and review togs, as well as participate in general discussions. The discussion section contains many topics, which in turn contain posts.

Topic

A topic, otherwise known as thread, contains all the posts on a specific subtopic, that should be named in the topic's subject. Administrators and moderators can manually lock topics, so that no new messages can be added to them. Toggers can subscribe to a topic, which means that they will get all new posts in that topic by email regularly.

Post

A post is a single public message by a togger. It can be either a base post, which starts a new topic, or a reply to an existing topic. Posts can be edited and deleted by the togger who created them (as well as by administrators and moderators). Posts can be added to personal todo lists and can be reported to the administrators and moderators in case of rule violations.

Private Message

In addition to the public posts, toggers can send each other private messages without knowing the email addresses of the recipients.

Administrator

An administrator can control and edit everything on the site.

Moderator

A moderator's powers are limited to a particular section of the site. A moderator can edit, delete and approve posts by normal toggers, lock and delete topics, add and remove board members and check the list of reported posts.

Polls

The creator of a topic can add a poll to this topic. Each poll can contain up to 20 options. Toggers can cast one vote for one option per poll. Polls can't be edited, and can only be deleted as long as there haven't been any votes.

Icons
N/U Green icons indicate new posts or topics with new posts. On ITOG, "New" means that a post has been added since your last visit and you have yet to read it.
O/R Grey icons indicate that the post or all the posts in a topic are old.
L The lock icon indicates the topic has been locked for some reason and no new posts (except by administrators and moderators) are allowed.
S The thumb tack icon indicates that a topic has been "Stickied" and will always appear at the top of the list regardless of the most frequent post.
Starbars
Yellow Starbar Yellow starbars represent your inputs to ITOG. They show up whenever you can or have rated a tog.
Green Starbar Green starbars represent predictions made by ITOG. They show up whenever ITOG is predicting your rating for a particular tog.

Frequently Asked Questions

I lost my password, can you send it to me?

No, the original password isn't stored anywhere for security reasons. But on the login page you can request an email with a special login URL that is valid for a limited time. After using that URL to login, you can change your password.

Why this complicated registration via password email?

ITOG has several features that can send you email, e.g. reply notifications and board subscriptions. The site requires you to specify a valid email address and only send the required password to that address to verify its validity. This is necessary since otherwise a lot of people would type in bogus or broken addresses and try to use the email features anyway, which would result in hundreds of bounced email/error messages for the administrators. This registration process also serves as a double opt-in scheme, which prevents the site from being abused for email-spamming other people.
